Project Description: During the spring and summer of 2007 approximately 19,000 acres of Dixon Memorial State Forest was burned during one of the largest wildfires in the history of Georgia. The forest is located approximately 10 miles Southeast of Waycross, Georgia, in Ware County and is owned and managed by the Georgia Forestry Commission. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources uses the property as a Wildlife Management Area.The Commission is committed to reestablishing longleaf pine where it naturally occurred in the forest through site preparation, and purchasing and planting longleaf seedlings.
