Through grant monies provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) is recruiting a highly qualified individual to fill a temporary assignment in our Macon Headquarters.
Position Description:
Under direct supervision of the Grants Coordinator, the Grants Assistant will perform tasks associated with the accounting of grant monies provided to GFC through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. (This position does not involve grant-writing.)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have an Associate’s Degree plus two years of experience in general accounting.
- Must possess at least one year of recent work experience in the accounting of monies awarded through grants.
- Consistently demonstrate competency in mathematical and business functions.
- Understands and applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Must have strong computer skills and the ability to utilize standard office applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Must be able to type at least 40 wpm.
- Must possess strong recordkeeping and documentation skills.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Must possess strong multi-tasking skills.
Preferred Qualifications: (In addition to the above)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or Mathematics or equivalent experience in grant management.
- Experience with PeopleSoft Financial Systems.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Assists the Grants Manager with the recording, maintenance, reporting and control of agency revenue and expenditures for grant monies provided to GFC by ARRA.
Interacts with agency administrators and staff, professional accountants, auditors, vendors and financial institution officials on accounting and fiscal related matters.
Assists in the preparation of reimbursement requests and expense verification to meet all ARRA requirements.
Assists in monitoring and evaluating grant spending, checks grant timeline milestones to assure each has been met before making reimbursement request past the milestone period.
Collects, compiles, records, and organizes grant data to complete internal/external reports.
Completes other projects or tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Interacts with all levels of state government in a way that promotes respect, encourages cooperation and contributes to excellent performance.
Maintains a consistent, high quality, customer-focused orientation when conducting business and providing services or products to clients, the general public and other external customers.
